On Friday, Mayor Dick Mclean visited Northeast Elementary Summer Food Site in Brighton. I was excited to visit Northeast for several reasons. Not only are they serving summer food and partnering with the nearby Shopneck Boys and Girls Club to ensure high participation, but during the school year they also serve universal free breakfast in the classroom. On top of all that, our very own Breakfast Expansion Consultant, Dave Rose, used to be the principal of Northeast!
During the visit, Dave and I got to sit down with Tony Jorstad, Food Service Director; Dan Ruybal, Director of Shopneck Branch Boys and Girls Club; and Mayor Dick Mclean. It was great to get to catch up with Tony, who I haven’t seen since I last visited another one of his breakfast in the classroom sites at North Elementary.
After lunch, Dave and I walked over to the Boys and Girls Club to check out the terrific new facility. They kids were well nourished from eating at Northeast, and excited to have a Fourth of July “water day” that afternoon. It was especially fun to meet all of the children who greeted Dave, having known him as their school principal.
Thanks to everyone for such a great visit and fun afternoon!
