Free, nutritious meals available for children and teenagers this summer

by | Jun 29, 2012

DENVER (June 29, 2012) – Summer should be a fun and care-free time for children, but for many families in Colorado, it is a time when food budgets are stretched thin and children experience a greater risk of hunger and loss of nutrition. During summer vacations, many children lose access to the nutritious, free and reduced-priced meals received during the school year.

The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) offers free, nutritious meals for children and teens, aged 1-18, throughout the summer at sites across Colorado. No application is necessary to receive food at these sites. Meal service times and meal options vary at each site.

To find a site, visit summerfoodcolorado.org, call 855-855-4626, or text “FOOD” to 720-432- 3285. English and Spanish speaking operators are available.

Hunger Free Colorado works with schools and local governments as well as faith and community-based partners to increase participation in child nutrition programs like SFSP and ensure that children have access to healthy meals year-round. Hunger Free Colorado is the state’s leading organization dedicated to ending hunger in Colorado. To learn more, visit hungerfreecolorado.org.
