DENVER (October 24, 2016) – This October Whole Foods Market Colorado will honor National Food Day with its first ever statewide Community Giving Day to benefit Hunger Free Colorado.
Whole Foods Market created Community Giving Days, also known as 5% Days, where five percent of that day’s net sales are donated to a local nonprofit or educational organization. Four times a year, Whole Foods Market stores select an organization, whose programs directly benefit the communities surrounding their stores to receive this donation.
Our partnership with Hunger Free Colorado will be a Colorado community call-to-action to shop in your local Whole Foods Market in support of the mission of this wonderful organization. Representatives from Hunger Free Colorado will be in select stores to share about their work connecting families and individuals to food resources throughout the state and their efforts to streamline access to nutrition programs so Coloradans have the fuel they need to thrive. The funds raised through the Community Giving Day will be used to support Hunger Free Colorado’s outreach program in the form of a new mobile unit that will travel into the community to help Coloradans sign up for critical nutrition support programs and provide information on where they can receive help with immediate food needs.
Hunger Free Colorado is a statewide, nonprofit organization that connects families and individuals to food resources and fuels changes in systems, policies and social views, so no Coloradan goes hungry.
“As we move into this season of giving and gratitude, we want to thank Whole Foods Market and its shoppers for helping to propel our work forward,” said Kathy Underhill, CEO for Hunger Free Colorado. “We are excited to have been selected for the first-ever statewide giving day, so we can strengthen our presence throughout the state.”
National Food Day, on October 24, 2016, “inspires Americans to change their diets and our food policies”.
