Benefits local producers, emergency food providers and struggling Coloradans

WHAT:

Gov. John Hickenlooper will sign House Bill 14-1119 (Tax Credit for Donating Food to Charitable Organizations), known as the Colorado Charitable Crop Donation Act, in a signing ceremony on a truck bed this Friday at Adobe House Farm, a farm in Durango that donates produce. Farmers, ranchers, emergency food providers and community members will be in attendance.

HB14-1119 supports the state’s agriculture communities, food banks, food pantries and Coloradans who are impacted by hunger. The Act will offer a 25-percent tax credit to local producers for the wholesale value of the food that they produce and donate to Colorado food banks. It not only will boost local, fresh-food donations but also provide struggling Colorado families with additional access to fresh fruit, vegetables, dairy products and meat products.

The bill was sponsored by Rep. McLachlan (D-Durango), Sen. Hodge (D-Brighton) and Sen. Roberts (R-Durango), and co-sponsored by Rep. Dore (R-Elizabeth). To learn more about the Colorado Charitable Crop Donation Act, visit HungerFreeColorado.org.
